A strong sense of social responsibility has been a powerful catalyst in bringing the partners together in the Valhalla business venture.

The Peace 2000 Institute was founded in Iceland by Thor Magnusson in 1995 to promote and influence peace initiatives around the world.

The Mirpuri Foundation was founded by Paulo Mirpuri in Portugal with the aim to contribute and make a positive difference regarding the most pressing issues threatening our planet. Programs include marine and wildlife conservation and aeronautical research to reduce emissions.

Iceland and Portugal are the two most peaceful countries in Europe according to the Global Peace Index report for 2017. They are also at the top of the charts as the most environmentally friendly countries in the world. Iceland has become a pioneer in geothermal energy that currently provides clean heat to the majority of Icelandic households.

Several synergies are shared between our countries and organizations.

The Leif Eiriksson Peace Award will become a joint program by the two organizations and will be funded with donations from profits from the Valhalla venture.
